Faith-Based Recovery

Believing in Christ for deliverance from addiction

Helping you reach your full potential

The Program

Mercy House Adult & Teen Challenge of Georgetown is a 14-month men’s residential Christian discipleship program. Our mission is to provide adult men an effective & comprehensive Christian faith- based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order to become productive members of society. By applying biblical principles, Mercy House Adult & Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.

Our Story

The ministry that would later become Adult and Teen Challenge was founded in 1960 by David Wilkerson, an Assemblies of God pastor who left a rural Pennsylvania church to work on the street among teenage gang members and socially marginalized people in New York City and who, perhaps, is best known for later authoring The Cross and the Switchblade and founding Times Square Church. Teen Challenge started its first residential program in December 1960, in a house of Brooklyn

We Focus On 4 Phases

Phase 1 – Why was I created?
Dealing with past wounds. How to move forward from addiction.
Phase 2Conflict resolution.
Building healthy relationships.
Dealing with triggers. Continued in-depth Bible studies.
Phase 3 – Move into our transition home.
Get a job. Pay fines. Get a
driver’s license. Marriage counseling. Improved life skills.
Phase 4 Transition to alumni home.
Have accountability. Live
freely. Develop a new life.

Our Values & Beliefs

Studies Centered In Christ

Our studies are designed to teach men about Christ, the Word of God, & how to live a godly life once graduating the program. This curriculum is based on the nationally accredited Teen Challenge Group Studies, Personal Studies, & Advanced Studies for New Life In Christ.

  1. Personal Studies – Focuses on contract-work based on a man’s individual needs for recovery & his capabilities
  2. Group Studies – Focuses on successful Christian living & 14 core classes developed by Adult & Teen Challenge
  3. Advanced Studies – Focuses on deeper spiritual principles & an in-depth look at Scripture

Work Centered In Christ

We believe hardwork & dedication are critical to recovery. Our program has a variety of skilled labor positions that students will train in. Areas of work include:

  • Mercy House Thrift Store
  • Mercy House Auto Center
  • Woodshop/Craft Center

Worship Centered In Christ

We believe in passionate & loving fellowship with God. We have set times daily for praise & worship. Students will attend Sunday church services & also have the opportunity to visit various churches & ministries in Mississippi.

Start Your Journey To A New Life

Don’t go through the process of recovery alone. There are people who can help you with the struggle you’re facing. Follow these steps and begin your path to a new life today.

Step 1. Intake Questionnaire

The admission process begins with this questionnaire & has 10 major points. Please review the questionnaire to determine your eligibility & entry into our program. After reviewing the questionnaire please follow each of the steps outlined below in the intake process.

1. Are you a sex offender? Unfortunately we cannot take offenders of this nature because we are too close to a public park & a school

2. How old are you? Our acceptance ages range from 18 to 65 years of age

3. Are you on disability? We do accept many people on disability but in most cases, depending on your situation, a discussion with the Intake Coordinator would be required

4. Are you on Probation? Your Probation Officer would need to be contacted before you could transfer out of the county you are currently reporting in

5. Are you taking psychotropic medication? No anxiety, depression, manic depression, or psychotropic medications or sleep aids are allowed to be taken here

6. Do you use nicotine? You can’t smoke, dip or vape. All of these including nicotine patches are not allowed

7. Is he in jail? Someone in jail needs to wait for their court date. We can forward a letter of acceptance directly to the court so the court system can determine if our program is a good fit for that particular individual

8. Should you bond them out? We cannot give legal advice but experience shows waiting for the judge to order that person here is more successful

9.Does the person want help or do you want the help for them? Someone coming here should have a desire to change. This can be determined in a phone interview with family & the prospective student

10. Is he in state or out of state? Because of our success we get many people from out of state. If there are any legal issues surrounding the student they have to be addressed. Commonly an interstate compact would need to be approved before coming here. If he is on Probation or has pending charges, most of the time he cannot leave the state he is in
